Rain

She was tired by the end of her day
Over the routine work rolled her hands again
Muscles and joints pained in stress
Five more hours to hit the bed!

House was empty, all had gone out
Her in laws, to attend a wedding in town
Her husband would come sometime late night
She, the young bride, waited alone!

All that she learnt were of no good use
As tradition said that she’ll stay at home
In the new place so far she hardly knew
Anything but a grocery store!

She thought of her marks and medals she won
All were kept in the shelves on a wall
She thought of all the women folks of her clan
All were kept inside the walls!

No place to walk, no time to think
Her days were crushed and so was she
She peeped through the locked door, outside
The rain was still pouring in dark!

She thought for a second the fun she had
In school when it rained with friends so close
She opened the door to the waiting freedom
Outside the house she felt at home!

She stretched her arms to the raindrops
Then each step she took forward in bliss
Into the arms of the sacred shower
Her face upward in grateful prayer!

Nothing and no one stopped her there
Not even the reality of her self
Rain washed away her pains and blessed
The little girl in her, she laughed!

She found joy within her space
That no one found from where it came
Others returned cursing the rain
That spoiled their day and robbed their joy!!
