She was unwanted, an accident
A burden to her home and to herself
She grew up deprived and dried up so
fast
She was just a woman.
She wasn't even worth a slave to be
bought
Rather they bribed someone to take
her
Out of their lives to a man's
ruthless hands
She was just a woman.
A car, jewels, money demanded
All to surrender for a place so
little
She lost her things and lost her
life
She was just a woman.
She had to obey and keep herself
quiet
Her hands had to cook for all people
there
She had to serve and eat the
leftover
She was just a woman.
She had to dust each inch so clean
Sweep and swab the whole floor so
hard
She got no time to read the newspapers
She was just a woman.
Family's free maid, cook and cleaner
Her husband's game whenever he
needed
She had no voice she had no rights
She was just a woman.
Off they sent her home for child
birth
She was cursed for the girl child
born
Anger mounted, they killed her baby
She was just a woman.
Her womb was used till boys were
made
They called her 'this' or 'that',
like others
She served her ungrateful sons too
She was just a woman.
Her hair grew grey, her skin
shriveled
Her beauty gone and charm drained
off
Dreams left her memories too
She was just a woman.
What else left,
her grand kids to be brought up?
Sleepless nights and unending work?
Disrespect and humiliation
from all?
She was just a woman.
Streets weren't safe, penniless was
her state
There weren’t better places to go,
than the hell she stayed
She wiped her brow, and her tearful
eyes
She was just a woman.
Time to light lamps, start evening
chores
She had to get up next day at dawn
She has no time to think of her
plight
She was just a woman.
I hate people thinking 'She is just a woman' The bitter fact is, This is how the most part of society thinks!
ReplyDeleteSad! but nicely penned!
It's an unfortunate fact. But truth can't be changed. She's power!
DeleteVery touching and a true commentary on the sorry state of the the average Indian woman !! Only if men could change their mindset ...only if women would let women stand up to their rights, things can change. We worship Goddesses Lakshmi, Saraswati and Durga Maa...we call India our motherland but the way we treat our women is just deplorable !
ReplyDeleteTrue..we haven't even started recognising woman as a being.
